Digital Innovation

Linked Data is a term used to describe best practice for exposing, sharing and connecting pieces of data, information and knowledge using Semantic technologies.

This connects related data, which was not previously connected and enhances the opportunities for ‘discovery’, ‘search’ and the ‘re-factoring’ of content to significantly enhance the options for distribution, publishing and presentation of content.

Importantly, it allows data to be effectively managed and utilised; increasing the opportunities for web app development and publishing of content.

The Internet of Things allows a wide variety of devices to be connected and the data from these utilised. This again creates many opportunities for innovation.

Why do it?

The growth and accumulation of data is creating problems for organisations and individuals as they seek ways to discover knowledge and leverage value. At a broader level the effective use of data is recognised as an enabler of innovation.

There are barriers to accessing the technology for creating and using Linked Data. Lowering these barriers allows organisations to create, consume and publish Linked Data.

It allows wider and deeper engagement with internal and external users of data; provides structural improvements and allows presentation of data as relevant knowledge in various formats such as info graphics, maps and many other visualisation methods.

Verinote is engaged in Research and Development with international projects associated with the Interactive Knowledge Stack (IKS) and the Apache foundation, to provide tools and services for consumption and delivery of Linked Open Data providing semantic enhancement of content, intelligent search and content ‘discovery’.
